E-examiner S-student
E: We’ve been talking about the first time you talk, talked a foreign language and I’m going to ask some questions related to this. Let’s begin with, first of all, learning languages. At what age do you think children should start learning a foreign language?
S: Oh, that’s a very good question. I believe the earlier the better
actually… like, even the child was just born. You know, how we learn our native language is at… We don't really have to
learn it, but, and we just… After we, we were born and
then… the people around us keep on talking us in that language. Then, we
eventually know how to speak it. So, I believe language actually work the
same. So, actually, s, the earlier the better. And when you're younger,
w, you just can absorb the knowledge faster than adult. So, the earlier the
better please. Yeah, yeah.
E: So, in your opinion, which skill is more important, speaking or writing?
S: For me… I feel like speaking is more important. You know… why do we have to learn a language is for communication.
That is the… the only key purpose for us to do… for us to have different languages, right? So, if you cannot speak well, then
people just simply can't understand you. There is not that many
chances that we can write it down so that you can…
communicate with people by words, but instead, we all
can talk. So, I believe speaking, you can make people
understand what you're thinking, is very important. So, in comparison, I choose speaking is more important than writing. Yeah.
E: Do you think that people still need to learn foreign languages?
S: Oh, of course, of course. We all have to. You know, nowadays… is more… although we are all living in the different countries, but
actually we are all-in-one and under the globalization. You know, we're all actually living together in the same… place. So different people go around the world, travel around or you meet
different people from different country, so of course, you have to learn
different foreign language in order to communicate with different kinds of people.
E: OK. Thank you. In your opinion, do you think that minority languages will disappear?
S: {lip smacking} Sadly to say, but I believe so. I believe are… there must be some minority language that will
disappear soon, coz at first, it is the minority language. Not many people
know how to move on… speak that language at first, and I believe that
not much resources or education will be put to
teach people in speaking that kind of language, so I believe…
very, it’s not very good news, but sadly, it could be,
not all, all kind of language can be keep forever. Yeah.
E: So, so, how can these languages be protected?
S: I think it needs to… For me, I feel
like, if you are with group of… people who are still speaking that
kind of… minority language, please, please,
keeps using it with your family or with your friends, just embrace your identity, yes, speak up more.
Even if you feel like, nobody use this language, you, you may, feel ashame
about it, but actually, come on, it’s your language. You even
learn some more new, some more extra than others. So,
please embrace it. T… to protect different, protect the
language, the easiest way is more s, people keep on using that
language. Yeah.
E: So, so, how can these languages be protected?
S: So how can it be protected. The easiest way is… the… if you are the group of people… the… as a
minority who speak that kind of minority language, so, please,
please, speak up more, use that language more frequently
with friends and family. Please embrace yourself as being
that identity, being the one who are still using
the… that minority language, coz even though there’re
not much people are keep on saying that language. But please…
still… speak up more and just use that language in front of different
people. Embrace your identity, and… I believe that the
easiest way to protect the language is… through more people, keep on
using and keep on telling people “Oh, there is this kind of language out
there”. So, if you don't know it, it’s easy, I can teach. So,
through more people still hold, holding on and using that language, then
probably… that kind of minority language can be protected. Yeah.
